[ from the interior, to the exterior ]

4.14.2010

Our house is not our forever house. We purchased it knowing that, but the other nice thing is that it is in great condition with no projects that absolutely had to get done. Everything now that we are doing to to add little upgrades to the home for when we sell it, and also make us like it more while we are here!

However, i feel like the things that will improve the value are so, so time consuming and really hard DIY projects. They all seem to be on the outside of the house too. A back patio or deck, the landscaping is an utter disaster and the front is my enemy right now.

Here is the front of the house the day we closed just about 2.5 years ago now.

We have decided to take out those weird, ladder looking columns and replace them with more period looking columns. The house is just under 100 years old, so clearly they don't work. Through some shopping and researching, we found pre-fab columns in Home Depot of all places.

We (well I really like) the tapered round column like this one:

Then... (here is the tricky part). We really want to cover the entire stoop in bluestone or brick or just natural stone. The steps are all firm and in good condition. But, whoever owned the house previously, painted the brick and slathered some concrete on them that is now chipping off. It was something we were going to tackle on our own, but after reading a lot about it, i think we need to hand it over to the pros.

Has anyone ever had this done or done it themselves? Any tips?

I'll save the backyard for another post, it is too overwhelming! LOL

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I don't have any experience with this, so I can't offer any advice. But I just know it's going to look beautiful when it's done. Your house is very cute!
