[ have you cruised? ]

8.05.2010

I dream of vacations and water and warm air and pretty colored cocktails with swirly straws. It is really hard to plan trips though both from the financial end and the toll the adoption has taken and also for planning purposes.

However, just as i wrote last week and just as you all recommended, i must live in the now. We can purchase trip insurance should be get matched, so why not plan a trip?

We both have always wanted to cruise and never had. I know.. i feel so deprived. Sort of like how i have never been to Disney either! Yup.. deprived.

So tell me, what is your favorite cruise line? Particular places you loved to visit? Best time of year? I mean living in the Northeast and having horrible winters we are thinking of going in the winter so we can have warmth. We can cruise out of NYC which is only a couple of hours away or we can fly to Florida and get one from there!

Thanks for your input!

Cruising was and still is my favorite form of vacation. I've traveled Royal, Princess, and Holland America and have to say that Royal Caribbean is my favorite. You get what you pay for. And going to the caribbean is definitely the best. Especially when you need to get out of the nasty winters.

I have been lucky enough to go on two cruises- and they are definitely fun!

One thing I would keep in mind about going out of NY (to the Caribbean) is that you are likely to incur a few days at sea, meaning you have no option to get off the boat. One day at sea is nice to relax, or maybe even two days…but much more and I think I would get a little stir crazy. Going out of FL eliminates so many days solely at sea since you are much closer to your destinations- and with that you will get to visit more islands :) That’s always a plus!

We went to Bermuda from Boston for our Honeymoon.. I LOVED it (other than my motion sickness). It was a really nice cruise.. we were in the open sea for like 2 days.. then we were in port (the same port) for like 3 days (so it was like having a hotel on the island, but everything was included!) and then 2 more days at sea to get back to Boston. It was alot of fun. We did the Norwegian Freestyle Cruise (so you can eat when you want and it isn't assigned seating.. great way to meet lots of new faces). Good Luck!! Glad you're living in the NOW.

We have never cruised either, but I want to. A friend invited us to join them in Mexico in February, but I thought: what if we have a baby? what if we get a call for a match? But what if we DON'T and we miss out on Mexico in February?? (As if we could afford it...)

I have cruised on Royal Caribbean and Carnival. I really liked both, but preferred Carnival. Younger crowd, more "fun" activities. I like the idea of going to 2-4 different places during one vacation, rather than staying in the same place.

Royal Caribbean would be my choice. We sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, great food nice & relaxing, you can choose to get off the ship to see other ports & shop etc. or relax on deck. We travelled in March.

Hi Rebecca. I've lurked here awhile, having stumbled on your blog looking up adoption related stuff in Albany. We're going to start pursuing adoption soon, and I've been quietly rooting for you from the 518 :) I just got back (today) from a week-long NCL cruise from NYC to Bermuda. I went with my mom and we had a blast. NCL is a young, fun crowd and the cruise activities were a lot of fun. Plus Bermuda is beautiful. You'd probably have to go further south if you went in winter. Also, if you were to be matched, there would be no way for you to rush home. I was skeptical about cruising but now I am a big fan! You should do it.

There are so many to choose from! I've cruised Carnival, RC and Norweigan. Carnival is a younger crowd and the food is, eh. RC is fun! Food is a bit better. And Norwegian is fun because you can dine at your own pace in make reservations in different restaurants (but you have to pay for those dinners). So it really doesn't matter you will have a blast and make us all envious that we can't go and cruise along with you! HAVE A GREAT TIME AND CHEERS! :)
